🚨 Optical stocks are surging pre-market: $LITE $COHR $AAOI $AXTI $GLW $CRDO $NOK The Trump administration and FCC are reportedly drafting restrictions on new Chinese optical transceivers used in U.S. data centers. The goal is to prevent potential data theft, malware installation and service disruptions as AI infrastructure becomes increasingly critical. Why this matters: China’s Zhongji Innolight controls approximately 27% of the global data-center transceiver market. Restrictions could force U.S. hyperscalers to shift orders toward non-Chinese suppliers. Direct beneficiaries: • $LITE and $COHR — U.S.-based optical components, lasers and transceivers • $AAOI — U.S. optical transceiver manufacturer • $FN — non-China optical manufacturing and assembly capacity • $GLW — fiber, cabling and data-center connectivity • $AXTI — InP substrates used in high-speed optical lasers and components Optical semiconductor beneficiaries: • $AVGO and $MRVL — DSPs used inside high-speed optical modules • $SMTC — TIAs, laser drivers and InP optical components • $CRDO — high-speed connectivity and SerDes solutions Networking beneficiaries: • $ANET and $CIEN — AI data-center switching and optical networking • $CSCO — networking equipment and branded optical products • $HPE — stronger exposure through Juniper’s switching, routing and optical-networking portfolio • $NOK — IP and optical-networking infrastructure Testing beneficiaries: • $KEYS and $VIAV — testing and validation for 800G and 1.6T optical modules What about $DELL, $SMCI and cooling stocks? • $HPE has a more direct connection because of Juniper • $DELL and $SMCI are mainly AI-server beneficiaries, not direct beneficiaries of the transceiver restrictions • Cooling and power names such as $VRT, $MOD, $ETN and $NVT could benefit from broader U.S. AI-infrastructure investment, but the optical-transceiver policy does not directly increase cooling demand
